QuickShare Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to the QuickShare
Android app (com.quickshare.app)
The short version. Files you send never pass through our servers — they go straight from one device to the other over a direct Wi‑Fi link. We do not run servers, we have no accounts, and we cannot see what you share. The one exception is advertising: the app shows ads supplied by Google AdMob, and the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects data for that purpose. That is described in full below.
1. Who we are
QuickShare is published by [YOUR NAME OR COMPANY]. For any question about this policy or your data, contact [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL].
Both placeholders above must be filled in before publishing. Google Play requires a named developer and a working contact address on the privacy policy you link from your store listing.
2. What the app does with your files
When you send files, QuickShare creates a temporary, password-protected Wi‑Fi hotspot on the sending phone. The receiving phone joins that hotspot and the files are copied directly between the two devices.
- Nothing is uploaded. There is no cloud, no relay server, and no backup.
- We never see your files — not their contents, names, types, or sizes.
- The hotspot is temporary. Its name and password are generated by Android for a single session and discarded when the transfer ends.
- The receiver must approve every transfer before a single byte is written.
Sending to a computer
The "Send to a computer" feature starts a small web server on your phone so a browser on the same Wi‑Fi network can download the files you selected. That server only offers the files you picked, has no upload capability, and stops the moment you leave the screen. The link includes a random code so others on the network cannot find it by guessing. Because it runs over plain HTTP on your local network, anyone who has the full link and is on the same network can download those files — the app says so on that screen.
3. Information the app itself stores
All of this stays on your device. None of it is transmitted to us.
| What | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Your device nickname | So the other person can tell which phone is theirs | On your device. Sent only to the phone you are actively transferring with. |
| A record of partly received files | So an interrupted transfer can resume instead of starting over | Private app storage. Cleared automatically when abandoned. |
| The folder you chose for received files (Android 8–9 only) | So the app knows where to save without asking every time | On your device. |
4. Advertising
QuickShare shows ads from Google AdMob. To serve them, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares data with Google:
- Advertising ID — a resettable identifier Android provides for ads.
- Approximate location — derived by Google from your IP address. The app does not use GPS for advertising.
- App and ad interaction data — such as which ads were shown.
This is the only data collection in the app, and it is performed by Google's SDK rather than by code we wrote. Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy & Terms. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Settings → Google → Ads on your device.
Your choices about ads
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before any ad is requested, using Google's certified consent platform. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time from Ad privacy choices at the bottom of the app’s home screen; the change applies straight away. Where consent is refused, no personalised ads are requested.
5. Permissions, and exactly why each one exists
QuickShare asks for a permission only at the moment you use the feature that needs it — never on first launch. Declining any optional permission leaves the app working.
| Permission | Used for | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Nearby devices / Wi‑Fi | Creating and joining the temporary transfer hotspot | Yes, to transfer files |
| Location (Android 12L and older only) | Older Android versions required it to create a hotspot. We do not collect, store, or transmit your location. On Android 13 and newer the app does not request location at all. | Only on older devices |
| Bluetooth | Finding nearby phones running QuickShare, and handing over the Wi‑Fi details once you pick one. Files never travel over Bluetooth. | Optional |
| Camera | Reading the pairing QR code. Frames are processed on your device and never stored or transmitted. | Optional — you can type the code instead |
| Notifications | Showing transfer progress so you can use other apps meanwhile | Optional |
QuickShare deliberately does not request broad storage access. Files you send are chosen through Android's own picker, which grants access to just those files.
6. Children
QuickShare is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us at the address in section 1.
7. Data retention and deletion
We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Everything the app stores is on your device and is removed when you uninstall it. To reset advertising data held by Google, use Settings → Google → Ads.
8. Security
Transfers run over a WPA2-protected hotspot generated by Android, and both phones confirm a short pairing code before any file moves. Please note that the local network used for "Send to a computer" is plain HTTP and is only as private as the Wi‑Fi network you are on.
9. Where to find this policy
This policy is linked from the bottom of the app’s home screen (Privacy policy) and from the app’s Google Play listing.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will be updated and the revised policy will be published at this address before the change takes effect in the app.
